Glen Scrimshaw, a Duck Lake, SK-based artist, has co-published his first book to celebrate his 20th anniversary as a successful commercial artist. Scrimshaw has compiled more than 200 of his favourite works into a coffee table book appropriately entitled, Glen Scrimshaw, Maestro of Majestic Skies.

The book, co-published by Sunrise Publishing of Saskatoon and printed by PrintWest in Regina, features some of Glen's earliest works as a young artist, along with some limited edition reproductions as well as some one-of-a-kind originals. As an added bonus, Scrimshaw has included several pieces that have never been seen by the public and will never be published outside of this book.

The release of Scrimshaw's first book not only serves as the crowning achievement of his 20-year career, but it also culminates an extremely busy fall season, which has seen its share of ups and downs. On the upside, Glen was honoured with the Paul Harris Fellowship in Regina. This Fellowship is named for Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary, as a way to show appreciation for contributions to the Foundation's charitable and educational program.

The downside occurred a few weeks ago when Scrimshaw came dangerously close to losing his hand in a wood planer. Thankfully Scrimshaw reacted quickly and was able to save his hand. Despite two of his fingers being severely damaged, surgeons were miraculously able save both injured fingers. Because of the extent of reconstruction that had to be done, Scrimshaw's doctor made it very clear that he was to keep his hand immobilized. According to Glen the pain was pretty bad, but not being able to work has been even worse.

Therefore the release of Glen Scrimshaw, Maestro of Majestic Skies is a truly welcome milestone for Glen Scrimshaw. Collectors and admirers are encouraged to get their orders in quickly, as a limited amount of books are available from the first printing.
