The C-FMPW DeHavilland Otter, or more simply the Single Otter, began its service with the RCMP on January 23rd, 1959. Immortalised by Glen Scrimshaw, this airplane was the sole single Otter in use by RCMP “F” Division (Saskatchewan). Based centrally in Prince Albert, this single Otter was used extensively throughout the province. It played diverse roles—from transporting household effects, freight, prisoners, and RCMP members to and from isolated northern RCMP detachments, to taking part in search and rescue missions. By the end of its service life in 1976, more that one thousand RCMP members took to the sky in this airplane ending a memorable chapter in RCMP history.
